Directions to the Museum – Helpful Hints

There are places where GPS is not helpful.  Getting to the Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation is one of them.  Several GPS systems dump you at the back door parking lot , (a private lot where the condo association is wont to tow.  THEY DO TOW. )  Using things like Google Maps, Mapquest, etc. may not help you much.  (They will get you to the general vicinity but may also deposit you at the back door.)

So, here are some helpful hints for getting to the museum and a link to the Museum’s own directions:

  • Take Waltham’s Main Street to Moody Street.  Turn onto Moody Street.
  • Cross the railroad tracks AND the river.  Take the left at the light, pass the movie theater and follow the signs to the municipal parking lot.  If this lot is full, there are lots of lots on the other side of Moody Street (behind the row of stores), on the street, near the commuter rail station and around the Waltham green.  All are within easy walking distance.
  • After parking in the parking lot or garage behind the movie theater, cross the footbridge back over the river and walk toward the mill building.  Bear right off the footpath and follow the path to the front door of the museum. If the parking lot is full, here is a link to a PDF showing other off-street parking in Waltham.
  • The Museum is located in the historic mill building next to the river, right off Moody Street.
  • The Museum’s front door is “under the smokestack.”  Look up and you’ll see it.
  • There are signs to follow to the museum.  Really, they are small but they are there.
  • If you are coming by train (commuter rail), get off the train in Waltham center, cross the tracks and head for the river.  Just before you get to the river there will be a road/path to your left that veers off along the river.  Follow it and you will come to the museum’s front door.
  • After Mass Innovation Nights, we’ll be heading over to Biagio’s Plush Lounge for an after-party.  (Cash bar.)  To get there we are walking up the path along the river and crossing Moody Street and vearing slightly to the right.  The Plush Lounge is on the second floor.  I’m hoping for nice weather because then we might be able to get out on the patio overlooking the river.

Don’t forget to tell your friends — the more, the merrier!
